Day 2 . First kedar - The Kedarnath Temple








The Kedarnath temple, the most important among shiva temples, at the foot of snow clad peaks, 3584 meters high . The pilgrim has to trek uphill 14 km after taking bath at a hot spring in Gauri Kund. The trek progresses through dense forests . Those who are not medically fit to walk can hire horses.

Behind the temple lies the final resting place of Shankaracharya. The temple is closed for 6 months from November to April due to heavy snow fall and the idol is taken to a village down the valley.
